Heather, you are so fondly remembered. My 14 year old son just found me crying as I read these wonderful tributes. Yes, he was the 1 year old I used to hate to leave when I came to work with you at Brookes. But your support, love and friendship kept me going through those times, and just as you predicted, he's turned into a well balanced, gorgeous, intelligent young man. You encouraged me to study for a degree, you helped me to develop a love of gardening - I still have plants that you gave to me from Gladstone Road, and you'll be pleased to know that birds and wildlife are positively invited into my garden! And I'll always remember the trouble you went to to ensure that I had that one last, crucial token from The Times to enable me to whisk my gorgeous husband off in Eurostar to Paris for a weekend - you knew how much that meant to two hard up students who could never have afforded it otherwise! You were so full of life when we celebrated your 60th birthday at the Victoria Arms, and as always, full of plans for your retirement. I am so, so sorry that our visit to you last Monday had to be cancelled. An amazing woman, full of life, love and fun, but also a very professional person. Thank you for the very, very happy memories I have. Your family are so lucky to have had the years they have had with you, and happy memories will, I am sure, help them through this difficult time. Bye bye Heather.
